Federal/State Laws

On the Federal level, until the passage of the Bi-partisan Safer Communities Act, no Federal gun laws had passed since 1994. While this act was a good first step, it did not include universal background checks, an assault weapons ban or a safe storage provision. All are critical to the reducing gun violence.

While some states have passed common sense gun reform legislation, many more have not. And in fact, many have taken steps to make it easier to obtain a firearm by lowering the age to purchase, making permitless carry legal, and even extending the right to carry firearms in public places, including college campuses and places of worship.
